The Five W's + H: Who: The traveling trinity: Christina, Sophs, and yours truly. What: Top 5 places to drink up Where: St. Louis, Missouri When: May 2024 - September 2024 Why: I'd like you to pay close attention to the route at the top of this page and keep in mind that this was the second straight contract where we drove all the way back to Texas, and then accepted a contract just a few hours drive FROM WHICH WE JUST CAME. We've had some bad contract luck in the past, but damn. Back-to-back like that? That's cold universe. At least we were able to hang for a few weeks in Montgomery before venturing, once again, all up into the Midwest. + How: After a few weeks of rest and relaxation at Lake Conroe, us peripatetic Pages hopped back on 45 and headed north near Frisco, Texas where we were able to spend time with my favorite nephew River. Then, after a quick stop in Springfield, MO, we finally arrived at what would be one of our three St. Louis-area homes over the course of our four months there: Chesterfield. In total, it was nearly 15 hours and more than 1000 miles to get from Indy to Monty, then another roughly 13 hours and 850 miles on to Chesterfield, Missouri. (Just for reference it's less than four hours and about 250 miles from Indianapolis to St. Louis, but who doesn't love taking the scenic route?) Top 5 Places to Drink Up: St. Louis, Missouri NINJA Japanese Sushi Bar & Steakhouse (1737 Clarkson Rd, Chesterfield, MO 63017) Quotable: "Best Sushi in St. Louey." Generally, smaller landlocked cities like St. Louis (unless you consider the Mississippi River a body of water you'd like to eat from) don't feature a robust sushi selection. Not so in the case of NINJA, a delightful raw bar that puts a unique spin on sushi fare.

The Five W's + H: Who: Team Page: Me (Driver/Crew Chief), Christina (Team Manager), Sophs (Nap Specialist) What: Top 5 places to drink up Where: Indianapolis, Indiana When: October 2023 - April 2024 Why: Maintaining our Midwest travel tour, we burned rubber back to home base Houston to jet out for a quick pit stop in Cancun before hitting the road to Indianapolis, Indiana. + How: Once again, we sped north up I-45 before hugging the turn east onto I-30 through Little Rock, navigating northeast through Missouri and Illinois until we reached the finish line in Indy. Race Results: 1100 miles in just over 16 hours. Top 5 Places to Drink Up: Indianapolis, Indiana The Oakmont (323 N Delaware St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46204) Quotable: "Excellent eats and craft cocktails in a trendy, adults-only setting." Leave the kids at home (or be thankful you have none) and race over to The Oakmont: a 21-and-up restaurant/bar that features some of the tastiest appetizers, entrees, and cocktails in Indianapolis. Located in the modish Mass Ave Arts District, this eatery was our favorite to frequent in the city known as the racing capital of the world.
Gentlemen (and ladies) start your engines with the Fried Deviled Eggs (pictured above). These lightly fried morsels of deliciousness come packed with house-made truffle egg mix, dill, and smoked paprika (and bacon if you're into that). The Five W's + H: Who: World traveling power couple (self-proclaimed) plus an America-traveling cat (Sophia) that would honestly rather just stay home please and thank you What: Top 5 places to drink up Where: Lexington, Kentucky When: June 2023 - September 2023 Why: In need of some peace and quiet after our marathon Euro-excursion, we settled on the small college town of Lexington. This serendipitous summertime stay also gave us the opportunity to make a pit stop in Dallas to tell tales to family and friends of our European experience. + How: First, we breezed north on I-45 to spend a few nights in lowest Greenville, Dallas. Then we made our way northeast for a brief squat in Little Rock, Arkansas, on into Tennessee for a few days in smokey Nashville, and then just a short drive up into Kentucky before our arrival in UK-land: Lexington. All told our seated buns traveled more than 1,000 miles over nearly 16 hours of driving. Top 5 Places to Drink Up: Lexington, KentuckyColes 735 Main (735 E Main St. Lexington, Kentucky 40502) Quotable: "Locally-sourced neighborhood fine dining." One of the first places we had the pleasure of perusing just so happened to be less than a mile from our home base. Coles 735 Main is a locally owned and operated eatery that features onsite cured meats, grown veggies, and baked breads for a fresh dining experience.
Cole's prides itself on using seasonal ingredients, which means much of this restaurant's menu is ever-evolving. We enjoyed their summer/fall options but you may have some new savory surprises in store depending on when you visit. |
